Your Coaches

Frequently Asked Questions

What do Toast coaches actually do?

Toast coaches act as your “career board of directors” — not an answer machine. They’re here to guide, challenge, and support you as you navigate your goals, decisions, and growth. Some are technical, some aren’t, but all of them are experienced leaders who can help you see blind spots, reframe problems, and build a plan you can actually act on.

Why Participate?

Come with one clear thing you want to talk about. Since sessions are 3:1 and your time is around 15–20 minutes, the more focused you are, the more helpful your coach can be. Examples: “I want feedback on my resume story,” “I’m stuck on how to position myself for a promotion,” “I need help navigating a team conflict.”

What can I expect to get out of coaching?

Think of this as a space to learn about yourself — how you make decisions, what’s blocking you, and what you actually want. It can feel a bit like therapy for your career: reflective, energizing, and clarifying. You’ll walk away with direction, next steps, and a better understanding of how to show up in your work.

Will coaches give me specific technical answers?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Not all coaches are technical, and even the technical ones may not have the exact answer you’re hoping for. Their real value is helping you think strategically, build confidence, and approach problems with a clearer mind.

What if I don’t know which coach to pick?

Take a quick look at their profile and choose someone who seems aligned with your challenge — leadership, product, career transitions, confidence-building, etc. You’re not marrying your coach. You’re trying out someone who might give you a new perspective.

How do group (3:1) sessions actually work?

Each person brings one topic. The coach will rotate through all three members, giving space for reflection and shared learning. Many members say the group format actually helps them more — you learn from other people’s challenges, not just your own.
